Straw Bale House, Knutsford, BC

I was approached in 2004 to design a straw bale home for nice folks who wished to move out to the country. It was my first experience with straw bale homes, and a lot of research went into what had been done before, including talking to others in the region who had built with straw before us. Although challenging, the unique home rewards the owners with it's old-fashioned feel and modern efficiency.

Farmhouse Renovation, Monte Creek, BC

Originally a 600 sq.ft. one-bedroom home tucked into the trees, the 2700 sq.ft. addition added four bedrooms, a full walk-out basement, wraparound porch, and a wood-burning furnace that reduces heating costs almost to nothing. Built strong to last long, with high cielings throughout, this dramatic new home will endure worry-free for decades.

Cordwood & Timber Duplex, Yarrow Village, BC

Designed for an upcoming co-operative eco-village near Chilliwack, BC, these duplexes were designed to take advantage of as many readily available materials as possible. The trees that need to be removed to place the buildings are to be recycled as loadbearing cordwood walls, interior and exterior trim.
