It was a long and busy summer, and the website here has been neglected for far too long. While the demand for truly alternative housing has most certainly tapered off over the past several years, the demand for efficient housing has not, and there has been quite a bit of activity lately regarding superinsulated homes and space-saving log homes. Straw bale continues to be at the forefront for cost/efficiency maximization, and in the new year we are embarking on an ambitious project with a local land developer to try and bring it to the attention of Kamloops, and British Columbia at large.

Also, don't forget about the EarthCare Vegetarian Potluck to be held this Sunday the 25th. E-mail myself, or EarthCareKamloops@yahoo.ca.

May is here, and at long last, so is the Energy Fair! It's time for the standard three-week ramp-up of excitement as I frantically try to prepare for another day-long marathon of green technology, straw bale advantages, explaining why living roofs are advantageous and trying to convince people that, no, none of these things are very expensive.

I'd like to thank everyone for their continued support over the past year. ThinkTank Designs is still dedicated to proving the Kamloops area, and indeed all of BC, with green design help and straw-bale homes, despite the economic slowdown. Look for us again at the BC Energy Fair, May 23rd at the MacArthur Island Sports Centre, and don't forget to come to the season's final Earth-Care Potluck May 31st at the Church of the Nazarene (basement). Bring a vegetarian dish and enjoy good food, good people, and good conversation!

Efficient & Sustainable Home Design

British Columbia has some of the most breathtaking and varied landscapes anywhere, from lush coastal rainforests, to the sunny Okanagan Valley, the semi-arid hills of the Kamloops region, and the dramatic vistas of the Rocky Mountains. Everywhere has it's own particular aesthetic, and it's own reasons for home designs to be more sustainable and efficient.

ThinkTank Designs is here to provide the people of British Columbia with skilled planning and design experience. We specialize in custom architectural home designs that work with the land, using sustainable materials and creating homes that are cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and use the least amount of energy possible, which is more important than ever.

UPDATE: September 2009

Lately there has been a considerable shift in focus from straw-bale technologies to other, more familiar forms of construction, but we're not going to let that discourage us. Despite the centuries of tried-and-true methods, it is still a very slow adopter in this day and age, and we here aim to change some views in the new year!

With four years of building experience in the Kamloops region, Building Designer Christopher Sundquist will work with you on every aspect of your project. With more effort spent on the initial design and planning stages, truly dramatic creations are possible at an expense comparable to a stick-built house of the same size. At ThinkTank Designs, our goal is to create the best possible living experience with the absolute minimum amount of cost and materials.
